Homebrewing at Hopvine

To celebrate our third anniversary, we are inviting homebrewers to come brew in the HopYard at Hopvine. Each participant needs to bring their own equipment to brew on. As we did at Big Brew Day in May, Hopvine’s Brewmaster, Ken McMullen, will produce wort for each of the homebrewers to do as they wish to customize their batch. Mash more grain, use fruit, spices, hop it up, barrel age it, sour it, whatever you want!

At a future date, we will host a tasting where participants bring their beer in (if it’s ready, of course) and share with each other. Stay tuned for details on that date!

Since we are mashing for you, you only need your brew kettle, chilling equipment and fermenter, plus any other ingredients you plan to use.

The base wort will be a 1.058 specific gravity oat brown.

Grain bill as follows:

60% Pale Ale Malt

17% Caramel Malt – C120

6% Midnight Wheat Malt

10% Flaked Oats

7% Aromatic Malt

Brewers must register by Friday, October 21st, at noon, to be included. This is first come, first served. Register at Ken@HopvineBrew.com. Include your name, phone, email and batch size. No email? Leave Ken a message at 630-229-6030.

Each brewer will get a maximum of 10 gallons of wort. As soon as we get to maximum batch size (7 bbls or 43.4 five gallon batches), we will start a waiting list.
